Conditions / activity
Good morning, yesterday I went fishing, so no radio for me. Looking at Chilton, the Critical frequency got above 5mhz at 08:00, but was back under before 10:00, the rest of the day was spent either just above or below 5mhz, until 21:00, when it went over 6mhz. This morning at 08:20 it was 4.200mhz. Contests this weekend. (SSB) 1) Battle of Carabobo 00:00 on 24th to 24:00 on 25th. (40m / 20m / 20m /10m) 2) King of Spain SSB 12:00z on 24th to 12:00z on 25th. (All HF bands except WARC) Some others are DIGI and CW only. NO STORMS TODAY: A co-rotating interaction region (CIR) brushed against Earth's magnetic field on Friday, June 23rd, but the encounter did not spark a geomagnetic storm. Minor magnetic disturbances are possible on June 24th as Earth moves into a fast solar wind stream blowing behind the CIR. The Radio Sun 10.7 cm flux: 74 sfu. Planetary K-index Now: Kp= 1 quiet 24-hr max: Kp= 2 quiet. .24 hr Summary... The geomagnetic field was quiet. .Forecast... The geomagnetic field is expected to be mostly quiet to unsettled, with isolated periods of active levels likely, on day one due to the anticipated influence of a positive polarity CH HSS. Days two and three (25-26 Jun) are expected to see field activity produce quiet to unsettled conditions as influence of the CH HSS slowly subsides. 73 Have a great weekend. From SOTAWatch, http://www.sotawatch.org/alerts.php and http://www.summitswatch.org.uk/sb/alerts.php where applicable, a few selected highlights (not necessarily Trig Points), that may be of interest. Please check SOTAWatch for activations not shown at time of posting. This summary is for guidance only. Where a trig point is shown, it indicates that the trig point could be within the SOTA activation zone. It does not mean that the activator is within the WAB activation zone for the trig point. If any doubt, a check should be made with them. 24-Jun-17 06:30 2E0YYY/P Poster G7LAS G/HSP-032 Raw Head 145.500 FM 14.285 SSB 28.450 SSB 29.200 FM TP5593... frequencies if available SJ55 ENG TP5593 Raw Head 06:45 M0PXP/P on

Due to shopping and DIY, I only spent around half an hour in the shack yesterday, and heard very little. The critical frequency down around 5mhz most of the day, but Chilton recorded spikes to 8.4mhz at 11:30, and later at 19:45 another spike to just over 8mhz. This morning at 08:20 it was 5.325mhz. SLIGHT CHANCE OF STORMS TODAY: NOAA forecasters say that a co-rotating interaction region (CIR) might brush against Earth's magnetic field on June 23rd. CIRs are transition zones between slow- and fast-moving streams of solar wind. They contain enhanced magnetic fields and plasma density gradients that sometimes spark geomagnetic storms when they reach Earth, chance of storms today: 20%. The Radio Sun 10.7 cm flux: 74 sfu. Planetary K-index Now: Kp= 1 quiet 24-hr max: Kp= 3 quiet. .24 hr Summary... The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled. .Forecast... The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to active conditions on days one and two (23-24 Jun) due to CH influences. HSS effects are expected to wane on day three (25 Jun) with mostly unsettled and quiet conditions forecast. 73 DAVID G0FVH. __._,_.___ _____ Posted by: "david dolling" _____

GM/DH5JBR/P
Morning This gent is on a 30 day 30 island tour of GM Caught him today and finally worked out where he was on Ulva island, Nr Mull and was giving out NH-18 to which is on main land further north and no were near Ulva island. CORRECT ref was NM-43 as he was by the ferry awaiting its return. So advise when you hear him next, see find out roughly where he is and work out the Square as been on his QRZ page the WAB's seem a little not right as by today's example. Doing lovely job doing this 30 day 30 islands tour but double check the WAB ref and hopefully catch him on a few more karl 73s __._,_.___ _____ Posted by: Karl Kruger _____

Not such a good day yesterday, signals were down, compared to Tuesday. The critical frequency only just getting over 5mhz a couple of times, between 09:00 and 18:30, later at 21:30, it went over 6mhz. Six SOTAs worked, two on 60m SSB, two on 20m CW, one on 20m SSB, one on 40m CW. This morning at 08:50 the CF was 4.600mhz. This evening from 20:00 BST there is another leg of the RSGB CC 80m SSB contests. The Radio Sun 10.7 cm flux: 74 sfu. Planetary K-index Now: Kp= 2 quiet 24-hr max: Kp= 3 quiet Prepared jointly by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center. UPDATED 2017 June 22 0030 UTC .24 hr Summary... Solar activity was very low. No flares occurred during the period. The three numbered regions on visible disk were all H-type spots and showed little growth or decay. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available coronagraph imagery. .Forecast... Solar activity is expected to be very low with a slight chance for C-class flares over the next three days (22-24 Jun). 73 DAVID G0FVH. __._,_.___ _____ Posted by: "david dolling" _____

Good morning, a rather interesting day yesterday, I worked ten SOTAs, on SSB / CW, two on 10m, one on 12m, one on 17m, one on 40m, all the rest on 20m. Picking up two WAB squares, and three bookholders during the day. (Its too hot for fishing) The critical frequency all over the place, spikes to 9mhz at 09:00, 8mhz at 15:30, and in between dropping to almost 4mhz. This morning at 08:30, it was 5.175mhz. CO-ROTATING INTERACTION REGION: NOAA forecasters say that a co-rotating interaction region (CIR) might brush against Earth's magnetic field on June 22nd or 23rd. CIRs are transition zones between slow- and fast-moving streams of solar wind. They contain enhanced magnetic fields and plasma density gradients that sometimes spark geomagnetic storms when they reach Earth. Chance of storms this week: 20%. The Radio Sun 10.7 cm flux: 74 sfu. Planetary K-index Now: Kp= 1 quiet 24-hr max: Kp= 1 quiet. .Forecast... The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet levels on day one (21 Jun). Quiet to unsettled conditions are expected on day two(22 Jun) and quiet to active conditions are forecast for day three. The increase in activity is expected due to CIR/ CH HSS effects. 73 DAVID G0FVH. __._,_.___ _____ Posted by: "david dolling" _____

Good morning, yesterday the critical frequency stayed below 5mhz until almost 12:00, then Chilton recorded a spike to over 8mhz, which lasted around an hour, by 14:00 it had dropped to 4mhz, not rising above 5mhz again until 21:00. Very little in the way of SSB signals heard at this QTH, but I worked four SOTAs all on 20m / 40m CW. This morning at 08:15 Chilton has recorded a spike to almost 8mhz. The Radio Sun 10.7 cm flux: 75 sfu. Planetary K-index Now: Kp= 1 quiet 24-hr max: Kp= 2 quiet. 24 hr Summary... The geomagnetic field was quiet. .Forecast... The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet levels on days one and two (20-21 Jun). Mostly quiet conditions are expected on day three (22 Jun), though unsettled conditions are possible due to the CIR. 73 DAVID G0FVH. __._,_.___ _____ Posted by: "david dolling" _____

Re: WAB 50 MHz Phone Contest, Sunday, 18 June 2017
What ever date is chosen there will all ways be someone that will say they have commitments, I quote, Birthday, Anniversary, I am away, Farther's Day, Mothers Day or there is a continental Contest they want to take part in. As Tony says we pick the dates as regards to the RSGB contests so at least there is some activity. Do the RSGB think about the above mentioned. 73 Graham G4JZF -------Original Message-------
